Andrew Mendelson

Lawyer

A lawyer at Woodward and Company since 2020, Andrew is specialized in Aboriginal rights and title litigation. He’s deeply motivated to help achieve justice for Indigenous peoples by protecting their rights to their traditional land and achieving social and environmental justice through the colonial legal system.

Andrew is originally from Ontario, where he was first called to the bar in 2020. Prior to that, he earned his undergraduate degree in Environmental Biology at Queen’s University and a Master of Environmental Science degree at the University of Toronto. He went to law school at the University of Victoria and graduated in 2019 (with a concentration in Environmental Law and Sustainability). While at the University of Victoria, he worked and volunteered with several environmental law organizations including the Environmental Law Centre, West Coast Environmental Law, and the Pacific Centre for Environmental Law and Litigation.

Before joining Woodward and Company, Andrew worked at Ecojustice, a leading environmental law non-profit organization, where he was involved in a variety of public interest environmental litigation files. His work at Woodward and Company is informed by this previous litigation experience. He is currently working with the Cowichan Nation in their claim for recognition of their Aboriginal rights and title.
