We advocate for Indigenous interests in lands and resources to be taken into account by regulatory decision-makers, and work to ensure the Crown fulfills its duty to consult and accommodate prior to decisions that would impact the rights of our clients. We endeavor to hold the Crown to a high standard of conduct in protecting Indigenous rights and title. We have acted for Indigenous communities in several large-scale resource assessments. For example, in May, 2022, we successfully represented the Mittimatalik Hunters and Trappers Organization in a finding by the Nunavut Impact Review Board that a proposed mine expansion would cause significant adverse effects, including on narwhal, a critically important species, and a recommendation that the mine expansion not proceed.
