Woodward is seeking an experienced Senior Litigation Assistant to join our talented and dedicated team in our Victoria, BC, office location supporting lawyers engaged in complex Aboriginal law litigation. Role Overview

The successful candidate will support litigators with primary focus on Aboriginal, environmental and natural resources law.

This position is intended to provide general litigation and legal assistant support in a variety of high-profile matters within multiple jurisdictions across Canada. This career opportunity offers meaningful work and progression that leverages your extensive litigation experience to our focused areas of practice.

Essential Responsibilities

  1. Independently maintains and organizes calendars, correspondence, court schedules and bring-forward systems; schedules and coordinates meetings; and assists with day-to-day file and practice management.
  2. Edits and formats documents such as correspondence, legal memos, agreements, reports, litigation records and materials for filing in all levels of court.
  3. Follows court procedures for the preparation, filing and service of court documents.
  4. Coordinates with court registries, handles logistics and arranges for court appearances.
  5. Extensively uses litigation software, databases, and document management processes and systems to provide legal support services for complex litigation matters.

Core Competencies

  1. Strong knowledge of rules of civil procedure in BC, Ontario, (including the ability to determine rules and procedures of tribunals or courts in other jurisdictions), for the Federal Court and the Supreme Court.
  2. Familiarity with electronic court registries, e-filing and e-hearing platforms.
  3. Strong problem-solving and resourcefulness using good decision making or judgement.
  4. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Technical competencies:
    • Advanced use and knowledge of MS Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
    • Familiarity with BC Online, LTSA searches, litigation software, and document management systems.
  7. Reliability, flexibility, and dependability are essential for this position.
  8. Experience working with Indigenous nations, communities, businesses, or organizations would be considered an asset.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of work experience in litigation as a focused area of specialization.
  • Post secondary (diploma, certificate, program) for paralegal or legal studies strongly preferred.

We offer a salary range of $70,000 to $90,000 per year (with consideration for education and experience), plus a comprehensive benefits package which includes health, dental, vacation and RSP contributions, wellness, and professional development.

Woodward offers flexibility with a hybrid work model. We anticipate a full-time in-office presence throughout the first 3-to-6 months for someone working in this position.
