Why Woodward

Woodward & Co. Lawyers LLP (“Woodward”) is a national boutique law firm that provides legal services to Indigenous communities, governments, and businesses, advancing transformative change in an era of reconciliation and decolonization. For over 30 years, Woodward has worked exclusively for First Nations, Métis, and Inuit communities to return jurisdiction to traditional lands and clear a path for prosperity.

We are committed to supporting the next generation of legal advocates for Indigenous peoples. Woodward welcomes applications from students for the following programs:

  • Summer student
  • Articling student
  • Co-op

Woodward values having Indigenous students and lawyers as part of our team and encourages Indigenous students to apply.

To learn more about being a student at Woodward, including what skills to develop or courses to take to be a strong candidate, please reach out to our Human Resources Manager, Pamela (see contact info below), who will connect you with a Woodward lawyer or student.

Your Student Experience

Students at Woodward will have the opportunity to work for our clients in all our areas of practice. We provide a flexible structure that allows our students to work on a range of projects, pursue their particular areas of interest, and gain valuable experience, including travelling to our clients’ communities and assisting with court hearings.

Woodward prioritizes student mentorship. In addition to the various lawyers with whom a student may work and learn from, each student is assigned a mentor for their term.

All students usually work out of our office in Victoria, BC. However, there may be opportunities for students to work from our Whitehorse or Tsartlip offices.
