David M. Robbins, lead counsel for the Quw’utsun (Cowichan) Nation, recently joined TRU Law students and Kamloops community members to discuss the landmark Cowichan Tribes v. Canada decision—one of the most significant Aboriginal title rulings in Canadian legal history.
The event gave Robbins an opportunity to reflect on what the ruling means for Aboriginal title law in Canada, the recognition of Indigenous legal traditions within the Canadian court system, and the long journey the Cowichan Nation took to see their ancestral homeland acknowledged.
