They/Them

Avi joined Woodward & Co. in 2025 as a Lawyer. Avi began their legal career in civil and commercial litigation at one of Canada’s top litigation boutiques before deciding to exclusively work for First Nation, Inuit, and Métis governments. Their experience includes working as in-house legal counsel to an Inuit government, which provided them with a deep understanding of the internal dynamics and priorities of Indigenous clients. Avi has advised on the negotiation and implementation of self-government agreements and has drafted foundational laws for Indigenous governments, including citizenship and election legislation.

Avi holds both civil and common law degrees (BCL/LLB) from McGill University, graduating in 2017, and earned a B.A. with distinction in Art History and Political Science from the same institution. They also completed a Master’s degree in Political Science at the University of Toronto, specializing in Ethnic, Pluralism, and Immigration studies.

Fluent in French, Avi is admitted to practice in Quebec (2017), Newfoundland and Labrador (2020), Ontario (2023), and Alberta (2023), and is a member of the Canadian Bar Association. Motivated by a commitment to justice and reconciliation, Avi views their work as a way to support Indigenous peoples in navigating colonial legal systems while advocating for the recognition and respect of Indigenous legal orders.

Outside of their legal practice, Avi has a strong interest in visual arts and creative writing.
